Today is all about EXCUSES.  Your excuses. We asked for your most creative, common, and outrageous excuses for failing to exercise. Here is a list of the most popular and most absurd ones. Some of these are funny and some are just inaccurate. You’ll probably find yourself guilty of some of these while laughing at a few others.

  1. I don’t want to get too big: Often coming from females who are afraid of obtaining bulging biceps or  bulldog-like shoulders, this myth can be heard in almost every gym. To explain as simply as possible, eating a high-calorie diet, lifting very heavy weights (into the hundreds at times), and following a very specific training program together will get you muscular – not to mention leaning out to a body fat level below average. With regular exercise and healthy eating, average men and women will simply get toned and fit according to their genetic makeup, not BIG.
  2. I have to wash my hair: Even Rapunzel had time for rappelling.
  3. I’ll work out twice as much tomorrow: It doesn’t work like that.
  4. Too fat to be seen at the gym: Even though this isn’t an excuse, we can understand where you’re coming from. You’re self-conscious about working out in front of others, but this is not an excuse to skip out on exercising. Programs like Incredibly FIT allow you to workout on your time and in the privacy of your own home. Lock the door, grab your towel and water bottle, and get moving.
  5. My house burned down: That’s a tough one to debate. It better be true.
  6. I’m already stronger than most people I know: Maybe you’re right, but are you healthy?
  7. I’m broke: It doesn’t take money to go for a jog, do pushups and lunges, or jumping jacks. There are many ways to get some exercise.
  8. It’s boring:  Sometimes it can be. But so is waking up every morning and going to work, but we do it because it needs to get done. Your health should be treated with as much respect and importance.
  9. It takes work: Most worthwile things in life do.
  10. I’m tired: Frequent exercise has been shown to increase your daily energy levels.
  11. I’m too far gone: Unless you’re dead, there is no such thing.  You can always do something to improve your health.
  12. I don’t have a way to get to the gym: See #7.
  13. I don’t want to catch a cold: You can catch a cold in the privacy of your own home.
  14. I always get burned out on working out: If you are not feeling rested at some point in the week, then maybe you need to cut back a bit. Alternatively, you may be working out a little to hard for your current level of fitness. Cut back a little before cutting back altogether.
  15. I eat healthy so there’s no need to workout: Unfortunately a healthy meal can’t make your heart pumping or muscles moving they way they should.
  16. My car pulled to the left and my gym was on the righ
  17. I have kids so I don’t have time: Kids need exercise too! Taking them for a family bike ride is a great way to incorporate your workout with family time.
  18. I’m not strong enough to work out: See #11
  19. I have to lose a few pounds first, because if I work out with all this weight, then my fat will get hard: Fat doesn’t turn into muscle, and muscle doesn’t turn into fat.
  20. I’m married why bother: Finding that special someone shouldn’t be the only reason to exercise. Caring for yourself is just as important as caring for each other.
  21. I’m too old for that stuff: See #11
  22. People who work out are insecure: There’s nothing wrong with caring about your health.
  23. I hate to sweat: We always say, “Sweat like a pig. Look like a fox.”
  24. I went to the gym, but couldn’t find a parking spot, so I left: You must mean a parking spot close by. Walking is part of your warm up. Keep looking next time.
  25. I’m too stressed to work out: During vigorous exercise, your body release endorphins, morphine-like  hormones, serotonin, and dopamine that all contribute to feeling of safety, security and happiness. If you are stressed, workout.
  26. Forgot my gym clothes: There’s always something you can do at home if you don’t want to drive back to the gym.
  27. My dog ate my dumbbells:  That’s a big dog. You might want to skip the gym altogether and take your dog to the vet.
  28. I have no one to workout with: Finding a workout buddy does help keep you both on track, but, at the end of the day, you have to find your own motivation for staying healthy long term.
  29. I don’t want my muscle to turn to fat when I stop training, so I won’t start: See #19
  30. God tells me when to workout: Jesus Christ walked everywhere. Follow his example.
